Rennie Foster has been a respected force in Canada’s music and arts community for over three decades. A pioneer of the early Hip-Hop and B-Boy movement, he later played a key role in the rise of house, techno, and rave culture in Western Canada. His early graffiti work is also well documented, featured in several publications dedicated to the artform.

In 2004, Rennie relocated to Tokyo, becoming a fixture in Japan’s electronic music scene. He held residencies in Tokyo, Kyoto (at the iconic Metro club), and Shizuoka, performing at landmark venues such as Womb, ageHa, and Yellow, as well as festivals like Nagisa Music Festival in Tokyo and Osaka. LOUD Magazine consistently ranked him among the top 50 DJs in Japan, peaking at #22. Since returning to Canada in 2011, he’s been a mainstay at Vancouver’s underground venues, holding a decade-long residency at Gorg-O-Mish (2013–2023) during peak years of operation, and currently curating Zenyasai, an annual dance music event at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre. Rennie has played festivals such as Bass Coast, Shambhala, Rifflandia, Soundwave and continues to play as a guest DJ at many prestigious Canadian venues such as The Human Rights Museum, The Vogue Theatre, The Capital Ballroom and a yearly residency at Lucky Bar in his hometown of Victoria.

Rennie’s discography includes releases on iconic labels such as Jack White’s Third Man Records, Derrick May’s Transmat, Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications, Ben Sims’ Ingoma, Synewave, Teknotika, and Rebirth Records — home of his underground classic, Devil’s Water. He has collaborated with and remixed artists including Juan Atkins, James Zabiela, Rick Wade, Uner, Edu Imbernon, Altern 8, and Swayzak. With four studio albums and countless EPs to his name, his visual collaborations are also notable — including artwork by MoMA’s Alexander Gelman (GLMN) and Detroit’s Abdul "HAQQ" Qadim Haqq with the cover art of Rennie's LP Game of 100 Ghosts featured in HAQQ's recent book 33 Years of Techno Art and Afrofuturism.

Foster continues to push forward with his own label, RF, and releases music on forward-thinking imprints such as Skylax (Paris), Weapons of Desire (UK), and Soiree Records (Detroit), staying true to his roots in raw house and urban-styled techno.
